July 1 marks the first day for many new faculty at UCI. We would like to take a moment to welcome you to the campus, and share some of the resources that we offer.
New Faculty Teaching Academy
All faculty new to teaching at UCI are invited to participate in the New Faculty Teaching Academy (NFTA). The 2016 Academy will take place September 6, 7, & 8 from 9:00-4:30. Designed as a series of integrated modules, participants can sign-up for the number of modules that they feel will best suit their needs.
Co-sponsored by the Office of Academic Personnel and facilitated by the Center for Engaged Instruction, the Academy is also designed to be practical and hands-on. Some of the topics include: designing learning with UCI’s student demographics in mind; implementing evidence-based teaching strategies that leverage what we know about how students learn; creating integrated syllabi, lessons, and assessments to increase the likelihood of students learning what you want them to learn; resources for instructors and students; and effectively addressing common teaching-related issues.
Do you have a new class prep and want some really specific, immediate support? CEI offers free consultations. We can help you sketch out learning goals, find existing resources, design great in-class activities, and organize effective exams and projects.
